Large Mammals: Buffalo, Elephants and Giraffe
Power, intelligence, and resilience define the large mammals of the Okavango Delta. Elephants move with quiet wisdom, shaping the landscape as they travel, while buffalo gather in formidable herds, ever watchful for danger. Graceful giraffes tower over the terrain, their long necks swaying as they browse the treetops. Each of these species plays a crucial role in the delicate balance of the ecosystem, from the elephants’ deep family bonds to the tense interactions between buffalo and the predators that follow them.

Buffalo
Buffalo may not have the elegance of giraffes or the grandeur of elephants, but they make up for it with sheer presence. Their watchful eyes and powerful build give them an air of quiet intensity, whether standing in the golden light of dawn or moving as a formidable herd across the plains.

Elephants
There’s something deeply moving about watching elephants in the wild—the way they interact, the tenderness between mothers and calves, and the quiet authority of a massive bull. Whether wading through water or kicking up dust on the dry plains, these gentle giants are a true symbol of Africa.

Giraffe
With their impossibly long necks and graceful movements, giraffes seem almost otherworldly. I loved capturing the way they moved—stretching high into the treetops for a meal or pausing to glance curiously at the camera, their eyes full of quiet intelligence.
