The moment I arrived, I knew Rosie was going to be a handful.
Our friends Ken and Fiona let us into the house, but Rosie was locked outside in the yard. That didn’t stop her excitement—this little dynamo was bouncing up and down at the screen door, desperate to come inside and meet us.
The second Fiona opened the door, Rosie exploded in, a bundle of energy with a big, happy grin, a rapidly wagging tail, and a total disregard for personal space. Her chunky little Staffy body wriggled with excitement as she bounded toward us, unable to contain her joy. She was so thrilled to meet us that she had a little accident right there on the floor—a true testament to her boundless enthusiasm.
The Energy of a Tornado
Rosie didn’t just walk or run—she zoomed. She bounced. She leapt. Staying still simply wasn’t in her vocabulary. She was an attention-loving little rocket who made it clear from the start that this photoshoot was going to be on her terms. Trying to get a sharp photo of her was like photographing a whirlwind.
Every time I crouched down with my camera, Rosie saw it as an invitation for play. She’d charge at me, jump up, and do her absolute best to cover me in puppy kisses. But Rosie’s playfulness had an extra twist—she had a bit of a mischievous streak. I quickly discovered her love for ears (especially biting them) and her fascination with pigtails. If my hair was within reach, she’d grab it and give it a good tug. At one point, she even managed to get her sharp little teeth caught in my earring, leaving me trying to hold her wriggling body still long enough to untangle us.
The Challenge of a Puppy Photoshoot
Photographing Rosie was one of the most exhausting sessions I’ve ever done. As I’m still relatively new to pet photography, I hadn’t worked with a puppy this young or energetic before. Most animals I’ve photographed at least pause every now and then—but not Rosie. She would zoom around the room, then suddenly drop with exhaustion, only to recharge in mere seconds and start all over again.
Fiona was a huge help during Rosie’s photoshoot. She’d hold Rosie still while I got everything ready, then quickly let go—giving me a fleeting second, maybe two, before Rosie came charging toward me again, showering me with licks, jumping all over me, biting my ears, and tugging at my hair. It was pure chaos—but the most adorable kind! 🐾💙

It was a game of timing and luck. Somehow, despite the chaos, I managed to capture a few moments that truly reflected her personality—her bright eyes, her huge puppy grin, and that unstoppable zest for life.

A Puppy Who Leaves an Impression
At the end of the session, I was exhausted, covered in puppy slobber, and had slightly sore ears from Rosie’s sharp piercing teeth. I honestly wasn’t sure if I had captured anything usable because she barely stopped moving. But when I reviewed the images on my computer at home, I was thrilled. There she was—happy, energetic, full of mischief and life.
If Rosie had a motto, it would probably be “Why sit still when you can jump, zoom, and bite pigtails?” She’s a puppy who embraces every moment to the fullest, and even though she completely wore me out, I’ll always remember her as one of the happiest little dogs I’ve ever photographed.
Would I do it again? Absolutely—though next time, I might tie my hair up first!
